wow, life sucks

"'Depressing' isn't a word I would use to describe my music. But there is some sadness in it -- there has to be, so that the happiness in it will matter."
-Elliott Smith
I'm pretty sure that applies to other things than his music, too.

I'm blogging from the Digital Media Center on campus, where I have burned my first DVD. Woo hoo. I'm gonna get all sorts of spoiled now, and want a DVD burner for my own computer, dammit. They're still too expensive, I think. Maybe I'll graduate one day and get a job and make money to buy things I want. Actually, my friend Mike set the whole thing up while I was buying a blank disc, but I'm confident I could've done it myself.
I've been listening to the Avenue Q soundtrack way too much. It only came out last week, and it's real funny and all, but it's also sort of depressing. I think the lyrics hit a little close to home. "What do I do with a BA in English? What is my life going to be? Four years of college and plenty of knowledge have earned me this useless degree." While the BA for me will be in Writing, that somehow doesn't make me feel any better. It's getting me all nervous about graduating and not finding a job and becoming homeless... not that this isn't a possiblility, but I really don't want to be worrying about it right now.
I went to my academic advisor Greg Williamson (wicked clever poet) with my concerns. He was very reassuring, but, I dunno... I still have my doubts about getting into a good MA or MFA program. He said that as long as I turned in a really good writing sample of 10-20 poems, I'd be fine, and I laughed.
Ha ha ha.

| October already? |

Maybe it IS a monthly blog... Nope. Just not a lot of time to write with all this quote-unquote schoolwork.
Also, I don't really have much to write about. Charlie Brown went well. TC is going well. School is going well. Therapy is going well. I keep making more new friends and going out for lunch. I got this new GameCube game called Viewtiful Joe, and that's going well too. (One of the best side-scrollers ever, IMO.)
The only thing that's not going well is my keyboard, I guess. It's always been really responsive, but now the spacebar only works ~75% of the time, unless I pound it like a typewriter. Maybe I'll get one of these wireless natural keyboards to go along with my sweet wireless mouse.
I've been planning my Halloween party... Dave's Third Annual Halloween Shindig, aka hween2k3. It should be fun. If anyone wants to come and will be in the Baltimore area on October 25th, let me know and I'll send you info. I made a website for the party and everything. I'm so cool! People I don't know keep sending me messages on Friendster! Yay!
